About Good Eye Care: Tips To Follow

While you are taking all the steps possible to stay healthy, you want to remember to also treat your eyes right. There are things that you should do in order to keep your eyes healthy and things that you should avoid doing. You'll learn more about both here.

Don't ignore eye irritation

It's normal to have your eye become irritated because you got an eyelash in it or something else. However, there may be a problem if you find that both your eyes are irritated at the same time. Also, it can be a problem if one of your eyes is irritated for a long period of time. Other things that can be happening that you want to have checked out would be a gritty feeling in your eyes, light sensitivity, blurriness, or discharge. You want to go in and have the irritation checked out because some of the issues that can be happening include allergies, an injury, or even the onset of pink eye.

Don't ignore eye injuries

If you have one or both of your eyes injured, then you need to be checked out as soon as possible. Whether you had sand blow in them and hurt them or you had something else get in them or hit one of them, you need to make sure there wasn't permanent damage done. It can be easier than you think to have your cornea scratched.

Make sure you wear UV protectant sunglasses

When you leave your house during the daytime, you want to make sure you always grab your sunglasses that have good UV protection. Just as how wearing sunscreen will protect your skin from the sun's rays, so will sunglasses.

Clean off your makeup before going to sleep

Something that you want to make a habit to protect your eyes is to always clean off your makeup before you go to bed each night. This way, you won't end up with any of that eye makeup getting into your eyes and causing damage or irritating them.

Don't skip out on your regular exams

The optometrist will let you know when it is that they want to see you again depending on things like your age, your risk factors, and your health and visual history. It's important for you to make sure you make it to these appointments because it can help you to avoid vision issues and other eye health problems thanks to early intervention.
